2007 Young Leaders Program
The U.S.-Spain Council is currently accepting applications for this year's program, which will take place at the end of March 2007. Applications shall consist of a curriculum vitae and a supporting essay. Candidates may be contacted for additional information. Program Overview
The
U.S.-Spain Council and its counterpart organization in Spain, the Fundacion Consejo Espaņa - EE.UU., launched this
program in 2001 to bring young American leaders to
Spain each year to familiarize them with the social, cultural, economic,
and political realities of contemporary Spain, and in so doing, foster
stronger understanding between Spain and the United States. The
Council and Consejo run the program in a joint collaborative effort.
As a member of the Euro Zone, Spain continues to make significant advances in the fields of technology,
new media, energy, and financial services. It is now the second fastest growing economy in the European Union. Like its neighbors, Spain is facing economic challenges with rising immigration,
almost zero population growth, and an evolving role within the EU. In addition, its role in the international community and particularly in relation to Latin America, is of growing importance to the United States.
Each year, the program's organizers endeavor to offer U.S. participants a valuable exposure to the government, politics, economy, and culture of Spain to foster a deeper appreciation of ongoing
developments and the depth and richness of the .
Candidates
must be between 30 and 45 years of age at the time of travel, citizens
of the United States, and have an outstanding record of achievement
in their profession. The Consejo and the Council pay for program expenses including travel, hotel, and food.
